📱 QR Code Types
QR Studio supports 6 different QR code types to meet various business and personal needs:
- URL: Links to any website, landing page, or online resource
- Email: Opens email app with pre-filled recipient address
- Phone: Initiates a phone call when scanned (click-to-call)
- SMS: Opens messaging app with pre-filled phone number and optional message
- WiFi: Automatically connects to a WiFi network (SSID, password, security type)
- Text: Displays plain text message when scanned
A WiFi QR code allows anyone to connect to your WiFi network instantly by scanning the code — no need to manually enter the password.
When creating a WiFi QR code in QR Studio, you'll enter:
- Network Name (SSID): Your WiFi network's name
- Password: Your WiFi password
- Security Type: WPA/WPA2 (most common), WEP, or None (open network)
WiFi QR codes are perfect for restaurants, hotels, offices, retail stores, and homes where you want to offer easy guest WiFi access.
Static QR codes encode data directly in the QR pattern. The destination is permanent and cannot be changed after creation. QR Studio currently creates static QR codes.
Dynamic QR codes use a short redirect URL, allowing you to change the destination without reprinting the code. Dynamic codes also enable scan tracking and analytics.
Dynamic QR code features with scan analytics are planned for QR Studio's upcoming Pro version.
🎨 Customization & Design
Yes, QR Studio allows you to upload any image and place it in the center of your QR code.
Logo embedding features include:
- Image upload: Support for PNG, JPG, and other common formats
- Size control: Adjust logo size from 10% to 30% of the QR code
- Easy replacement: Change or remove the logo at any time
Adding your logo creates branded QR codes that reinforce your visual identity while remaining fully scannable.
Yes, QR codes with logos remain fully scannable thanks to built-in error correction technology.
QR codes can have up to 30% of their area covered or damaged while still working correctly. QR Studio keeps logo sizes within safe limits (10-30%) to ensure your codes always scan properly.
Best practice: Always test your QR code with multiple devices before printing or publishing to ensure it scans correctly.
QR Studio offers complete color flexibility for your QR codes:
- 6 preset colors: Quick access to popular colors
- Custom color picker: Choose any color visually
- Hex code input: Enter exact brand colors (e.g., #FF5733)
- Transparent background: Perfect for colored design backgrounds
Important tip: For best scanning reliability, maintain high contrast between your QR code color and background. Dark codes on light backgrounds work best.
The minimum recommended QR code size is 2 cm × 2 cm (approximately 0.8 inches) for close-range scanning with smartphones.
Size guidelines based on scanning distance:
- Business cards / close range: Minimum 2 cm × 2 cm
- Flyers / table tents: 3-5 cm recommended
- Posters / signage: 10+ cm for viewing from a distance
- Billboards: Scale based on viewing distance (ratio of 10:1)
Rule of thumb: The scanning distance is roughly 10 times the QR code width. A 3 cm QR code scans well from about 30 cm away.

🔧 Troubleshooting
If your QR code isn't scanning, check these common issues:
- Size too small: Ensure minimum 2 cm for close-range scanning
- Low contrast: Use dark colors on light backgrounds
- Logo too large: Keep logo under 30% of QR code size
- Inverted colors: QR codes should be darker than background
- Print quality: Ensure crisp printing without blur or smudging
- Surface issues: Avoid glossy or reflective materials that cause glare
- Damage: Creases, tears, or obstructions blocking the code
If problems persist, try generating a new QR code and testing before final use.
You can change the visual design (colors, logo) of a QR code, but you cannot change the encoded content of a static QR code after it's created.
To change what a QR code links to:
- Static codes: You must generate a new QR code with the updated information
- Dynamic codes: Content can be updated without changing the QR image (coming in QR Studio Pro)
Pro tip: For frequently changing content, consider linking to a webpage you control, then update the webpage content instead of the QR code.
